The course aims at preparing students to operate effectively and efficiently in the management of company processes and projects, providing a clear explanation of the most appropriate tools and techniques which are the  most widely used by firms, with particular reference to profit-oriented manufacturing companies.

Students who attend this course should acquire the indispensable knowledge for playing, in the future, organizational roles for process and/or project manager or process and/or project team member, within the structure of the enterprise.

Didactical method

The course is organized to cover  two main areas.
The first part will examine the fundamental concepts underlying company process management.
The second part will examine the fundamental concepts underlying company project management.
Organizational management of company processes and projects

The program of this first part can be summarized as follows:
1.    the business functional approach: advantages and limits of a mere functional management and organization
2.    the business processes approach:
•    typology of processes, classifications and modality of representation
•    the processes management for the creation of value: BPI and BPR
•    the processes approach from the organizational point of view
•    the management of processes, informative systems of processes and the process management of employees
•    limits of the processes approach
    
The second part of the course, which lasts about 5 hours, will deal with the explanation of the main concepts of business projects management .
The program of this second part can be summarized as follows:
1.    the definition of the concepts of project and program and related classifications
2.    project management: operating, organizational and economic-financial aspects
3.    involved organizational roles

Experts from the business world will be invited to talk about their experiences during the two parts of the course.

1 – Introduction to the course; the company system: the approach per function.
2 – Structure and other organizational functional variables: the control of centres of responsibility
3 – The approach per process: an introduction; definition of process; classification of processes
4 – The development process of business
5 – Active cycle (sales )
6 – The Passive cycle; the industrial process; directive and support processes
7 – process management; Business Process Improvement projects; BPR: an introduction
8 – Business Process Reengineering
9 - Business Process Reengineering
10 – Process organization: structure and other variables; control systems and human resources management systems
11 – ABC, ABB, ABM; process information systems
12 – Project management

The exam is composed of two parts:
-written examination on the topics dealt with during the course and in the case studies;
- creation and presentation of a project carried out as part of a group (those not working in a group must decide with the teacher on a project to be developed as further study.
